Title: Quality Engineering Lead

Location: east coast of the Americas to European timezones

Have you ever seen an ascii art implicit association test? To be honest, I’m not sure if it’s even a thing or if that’s the proper way to call it, but have a look at the seamlessly copy-pasted piece of ascii-art bellow and try to figure out what emotion it triggers in you. What’s that? Is that “confidence” that you are thinking? I bet it is, or you are probably browsing random job ads, because if you are here on purpose then we hope that you are all about “Shipping with Confidence”. Lately, we are investing more and more in Quality Engineering here at Pleo. With investing, we are not only talking about hiring talented individuals. Our engineering team recently spent a whole week adding more tests to our codebase and improving the coverage, while we also re-structured our Quality Engineering team in order to reach our goals about Quality Assistance smoother and quicker. As part of our new structure, we formed a team of 3 Software Engineers in Test (SETs). This could be your team. Its mission is to help Engineers optimizing test automation, tooling, and delivery pipeline in order to allow everyone to ship with high confidence during releases. Moreover, it aims to enable everyone in Engineering increasing testability and encourage a strong Quality culture through each sprint. In addition, our feature teams include Quality Engineers who are in responsible with what/why to test in addition to risk assessment within their feature teams. Quality Engineers and SETs help shape the Quality Engineering vision with you and empower feature teams to deliver high-quality code. Now that we have set up the stage, let’s talk a bit about you and this role. You’d be asked to lead our 3 (for now) SETs. We imagine that you have a high level of technical skillset, ideally been a SET yourself. You won’t be expected to handle the implementation parts yourself but you should be able to drive the technical discussion, be there to guide your team and remove obstacles from their way. You’d be responsible for setting up the vision for the team as well as setting up the path that leads to its implementation by successfully prioritizing and project managing your team’s various endeavors. In a sense, you will act as a “Quality Ambassador” always pushing our organization to be at the forefront of testing practices while driving a quality-first approach to software development and delivery. As a manager, we’d expect that you lead with compassion and kindness when someone makes mistakes and take the time to encourage good habits. You show the way to resolve conflict with ease while listening with kindness and have a critical mind. You lead via meaningful debates with teams and close working ties with all Engineering Leads. You delegate and coach diligently often so that your team grow along with Pleo and strive for mastery in their work. If you’ve been nodding with excitement while reading all these, we’d like to meet you 🙂 What roles does this entail?

Drive a quality-first approach to software development and delivery. Manage a growing team of experienced SETs. Manage multiple concurrent projects while effectively solving problems that cross-product teams. Establish strong partnerships and champion quality throughout a cross-functional organization. Promote active, continuous learning and improvement within your team. Cultivate team members’ growth through feedback, coaching and career development. Communicate quantitative and qualitative quality metrics, analysis, and risks to stakeholders.

Show me the benefits

Your own Pleo card (no more out-of-pocket spending) Ability to work remotely (anywhere between east coast of the Americas to European timezones)… …or onsite if you want to (Copenhagen, London, Berlin, Stockholm, Quebec city) Quarterly trips to somewhere for team camps (both company-wide ones and team-specific ones). The last one was in Northern Ireland last December. Investment in learning & developing (just check with your team for what’s reasonable, we don’t have set budgets)

And here are some other nice gestures that we do

Catered lunch in our HQ and London offices when you’re here 25 days holidays (annual) Loads of weird and wonderful niche communities to join in the company (we’re talking guerrilla gardening, liquids tasting, the Pleo band, learning to code initiatives, beer brewing, skiing, that type of thing) Wild enthusiasm and encouragement from us if you want to host MeetUps, events, etc – we’ll help (venue, food etc)

Working at Pleo means you’re working on something very exciting: the future of work. Through fintech we’ve seen a way to impact how people work; we think company spending should be delegated to all employees and teams, that it should be as automated as possible, and that it should drive a culture of responsible spending. This world deserves the best out of trust, autonomy, automation, and empowerment. Being HQ’d out of Copenhagen means we’re inspired by sensible things like a good work-life balance. If you don’t work in the office with us we’ll help you get up the best remote set up possible, and will fly you in once a quarter for team camps.
